My Skirt is ready!

Hello everybody! :)

Like I told in my last blogtext, the first thing we were doing at school was a skirt.
I have never before made a skirt.. or pretty much any clothes by myself.

But here it is!!

It's not that great as I was hoping. The waist section didn't work out like I would have wanted.
But I think it's still pretty awsome! I'm gonna do little improvements on my own time. I'm gonna change the waist section and remove the zipper. Because I would have put a wider rubber band style waist thing on it. And I didn't want a zipper, but teacher reguired everyone to have it on their skirts.
Anyway, the orange rose is better than I thought it would be. I have never done that in my life, so I'm pretty happy. :)

I have couple pictures of my patterns. And oh boy I had a huge struggle with those.

When I figured out those, it was very fast to do it. All the calculating and stuff.. But I made it! :D

We needed to do the procedure and cross-section photos before we got the permission to start to sew the final skirt.

It's on finnish, so sorry. :D My procedure changed on the way, but it's normal when you are just learning. And because you are making mistakes, it's never that simple. :D

The cross-section photos are showing the seam construction. (Is that the right way to say it in englinsh?? :D)

And the final task was to calculate how much the skirt is costing. My skirt would cost almost 85 euros. Not cheap at all. :D Well of course my dress doesn't look like it could cost that much. But we did this just to learn how to do it. Because in future we are doing custom clothes to customers.

But now I gotta go! I'm still at school so can't do my own things right now.

I hope you like my blog, even it is still on the starting point. Not that fancy yet. :D

Comment if you want and follow my blog if these things are close to your heart. :)

Thank you for reading and have a nice week! :)

Bye byeeee!! xo -Leila

Welcome to my blog!! :) Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Good Morning!

I'm going to start this blog by telling a bit of myself. Let's start with the basics; my name is Leila and I'm 22 years old woman from Lahti, Finland.
I started a blog (finnish language) few months ago, beacause I started studying the clothing business. I wanted to have some kind of document about my journey.

Now I'm sitting at school and our task is to create a blog. Well because I already have a blog and I have just been wondering what to do, I decide to create same kind of blog than my finnish blog is, BUT in english.

So I want to apologize if I have grammar mistakes or so. I have studied english about 10 years (like everybody here in Finland).

Back to business. In this blog you can follow my school life, and bit of my personal life too.
I want to share my journey in school of clothing business and I hope someone who wants to study clothing, could have ideas and inspiration of my blog. :)

At the first period at school, we made a skirt to ourselves. We was supposted to desing it complitely on our own. Some of our class took a ideas of different kind of fashion magazines. Our own teacher didn't wanted us to try anything too hard, because she wanted us all to succeed. But on the same time our other teacher said we all tried to do too easy skirts. So allmost all of us started to desing new one.
We were not allowed to use fabrics like chiffon, silk, etc.

First we created the skirt from bed sheet fabric. This is what I made:

And it took time, because making pattern was a bit hard. You needed to calculate all your measurements and then calculate a little more. And finally you got to the point where you used a lot of skissors and glue.

After the final fitting of the prototype made of bed sheet fabric, I got the green light to start the REAL dress.
And boy it was hard. The prototype was already taken my nerves. :D
But I was so determinded to made it done!

It was almost done. And all I had to do was finding a perfect orange fabric for the rose.

So... next time I will publish a photo of the finished skirt.

And now I need to go home. I hope you like my blog. :)

To the next time!! xo
